Just tell them at the door you want to shop for alcohol. You will get in and be able to buy wine.
So how do the Carlsbad Costco wine prices compare to say Bev Mo, Le Targette, Trader Joes and the sort? Sadly there is no comparison...why you ask? Volume. Think of all the wine shops that you have ever been to...ALL of them buy wine by the CASE Costco's big secret is that they buy wines by the PALLET, not palette silly, big flat pallets that hold no less than 56 CASES each. Most wine shops buy wine by case amounts. Not Costco. They buy wine by the pallet. There are 56 cases of wine on a pallet. Think huge! Therefore Costco gets the best deals and in some cases access to the best vintages. I have heard the markup on wines at Costco is anywhere from 11 to 14% on a bottle of wine (when you do your own wholesale to retail comparison, this is the drill, to mine down to determining how definitive the mark-up is. Costco Carlsbad's markup is low because of the volume, it's as simple as that!
